It’s time to start thinking about the
2012 Property Tax Season.

Now is the time to GATHER EVIDENCE for next year’s hearings. If there are damaged or
aging improvements on your property, please do the following before January 1st of 2012:

1. Take DATE STAMPED PHOTOS (with the date stamped on the front), then e-mail them to BTA
with the BTA Tie Back ID Number
referenced on the e-mail they are attached to. If you choose to mail them,
please write the BTA Tie Back ID N
umber on the back of each photo.

2. Get an ESTIMATE/QUOTE from your contractor or insurance company of repairs and
replacements that were not completed before January 1st. Reference the BTA Tie Back ID
on the document.

3. For cracked slab or foundation problems, Appraisal Districts prefer an
ENGINEERING REPORT issued within the last two (2) years, as long as repairs were
not completed before January 1st. Reference the BTA Tie Back ID on the document.

Examples of Damaged or Aging Improvements that the Appraisal District may consider
viable
evidence for reduction are:
· Wind, Storm, Fire, or Water damage;
· Interior/Exterior Wall, Floor, or Ceiling damage (cracks, water stains, etc.) caused by major
foundation settlement, roof failure, plumbing or electrical problems
· Interior fixtures and appliances are outdated compared to the surrounding neighborhood
· For Residential Properties the following repairs are not considered a viable argument for value
reduction by the appraisal district and are not helpful to your case: Repairs to driveways, sidewalks,
landscaping, fences and trees.
· For Commercial Properties repairs to driveways, sidewalks, landscaping, fences and trees could
affect your business and may be considered a viable argument.

Evidence must be gathered and

repairs or replacements must NOT be done

by January 1, 2012.
